News Update

We had a fantastic exhibition weekend, which started on Friday night with some fantastic squash.

Two of our leading players matched themselves up against two internationally ranked players. Chris Fuller (world number 96!) destroyed our Wayne Hiatt with a ruthless display, prior to which his brother Mark Fuller toyed and teased with our Club number one Chris Gibbons, putting him through some mammoth rallies, before putting him to bed.

Both of our team players did exceptionally well, and managed to get some points on the board, which is no mean achievement!

Following this the two brothers played 5 exhilarating games, with Chris Fuller having the edge on brother Mark 3-2

On Saturday morning we had a fantastic turnout for our junior coaching. Our two new courts were very busy, we could have done with 2 more! The new centre is raising the profile of the game already, and that is really good to see.

Our club closed competition kicked off on the afternoon, and culminated with the finals on Sunday evening. There were no major shocks, with the matches going with seedings through to the Semi finals. At semi final stage, an under the weather Richard Speed needed to get past ex number one Adrian Gibson in 3 straight games, but, after going two up, began to tire. Adrian's class began to come through and he closed out a nail biting 10 -9 victory in the final rubber.

Chris Gibbons eased past Wayne Hiatt in his semi, though Wayne gave the club number one plenty to think about taking the 3rd rubber and leading 7 -2 in the 4th before losing that game 9 -7.

The final was a one way affair with Chris taking the championship 3-0 Adrian's morning work had clearly taken its toll, however, Chris proved a worthy champion and regained the title he last won in 2013.

In the plate, Ady Greenbury, who seems to love this competition, progressed to the final but was taken apart by the experienced veteran and club chairman Paul Drury, who took the title 3-0

A Great weekend, and thank you to all. Looking forward to next year already!
